I'm just wondering, if the probe comes so close to the ISS why they not using the ISS to communicate with the prob?

Is it because the antennas are pointing down? Is it because there isn't X band communication equipment on ISS?

It looks like the main issue is that there is no proper hardware (tracking antennas) on the ground under Russians disposal to allow for a proper communication channel. Wouldn't it be easier to try it form space?
